Young Leaders Academy
The Young Leaders Academy programme offers employability skills training for 16-24 year olds through funding from the Department for Education. This programme involves online learning through virtual workshops and activities, and encourages young people to start their journey in volunteering. As part of the Young Leaders programme, young people will be encouraged to commit to volunteering, including supporting School Games delivery. There will also be the opportunity to access wider opportunities to use the skills developed within practice, as well as to access formalised qualifications such as the Sports Leaders UK Volunteering Skills Award and tailored courses accredited by EduCare. At the final stage of this programme, there is the potential for young people to create their own project within their community, thus providing opportunities for our young leaders to use their skills to incite social change for the benefit of their local and wider community.
Target Audiences
The Young Leaders Academy programme is targeted specifically at young people aged 16-24 who are interested in accessing employability skills training, and who currently don't engage in alternative leadership opportunities. This academy is not designed to cater for individuals who are interested in sport-specific leadership opportunities or for young people already accessing leadership opportunities. Groups who may benefit from this programme include:
- Lower socio-economic groups
- Groups not in education, employment or training (NEET)
- Young People with a Disability or Long Term Health condition
- Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic groups
Delivery
Delivery for the 2020-21 academic year will take place virtually via our learning management system. Once accepted onto the programme, after completing the application process, young people will be issued with their log in credentials. Upon log in, young people will have access to the bespoke virtual workshops, additional qualifications and training, as well as the volunteer portal including the volunteering opportunities search tool.
