Harlequins Orienteering Club

Think of running through a wood whilst solving a puzzle. Orienteering is the physical and mental challenge of using a map to navigate between a series of checkpoints know as 'controls'. Usually this involves running or walking, but both cycling and para versions are sometimes available.

Orienteering has a wide appeal. HOC members include:

• Elite runners wanting an intense physical and mental challenge;
• Joggers and walkers interested in adding a bit of variety to their adventures in the great outdoors;
• Children and families who enjoy the outdoors and want to take part in a fun activity.

Harlequins is the orienteering club for Worcestershire and the Black Country, as well as part of Herefordshire, South Birmingham and South Shropshire. We don't have a set base, but organise events in places like the Malvern Hills, Wyre Forest and Kinver Edge, as well as in parks, woods and urban areas throughout our region.

Our regional events take place a few times a year and offer several courses with a range of physical and technical challenges so everyone can find a course that best matches their experience. We always welcome newcomers, and advice is on hand to help you choose the right course and get some pointers to head off in the right direction!

We also run regular informal events that are open to all, including after-dark events during the winter. Our website provides a list of forthcoming orienteering events in our area.

You don't even have to come to an event: the British Orienteering website has a searchable list of permanent orienteering courses where you can have a go at orienteering whenever you like!
